The Birds of Virginius Island

Meet a birding enthusiast from the Potomac Valley Audubon Society for a bird-watching hike on today’s nature-filled Virginius Island. On trails that weave past factory ruins and canals, see if you can spy a few of the 170 bird species of Harpers Ferry, such as a pileated woodpecker (Dryocopus pileatus), American goldfinch (Spinus tristis), Baltimore oriole (Icterus galbula), red-shouldered hawk (Buteo lineatus), and of course, the great blue heron (Ardea herodias).
